Hopefully this will help anyone else who comes across this issue and like me could not find any definitive answers. So as you can see, enabling Hybrid CrossfireX does absolutely nothing performance wise to boost your fps. The only difference made in selecting which card under the Master Graphics Processor option is that it loads that card in Afterburner so you can play with the clock settings for that card, while the other card remains stock. Connect the monitor cable to the correspondent connector on the PCI Express graphics card on PCIE1 slot. For the proper installation procedures, please refer to section Expansion Slots.

Install one compatible PCI Express graphics card to PCIE1 slot (green). It makes no difference if you select the HD4290 or the HD4870 as Master Graphics Processor in the Master Graphics Processor Selection option in the MSI Afterburner settings, the HD4870 is allways loaded as the primary card. I could not find any definitive answers on this subject, no info from Ati/AMD, and no user results/benchmarks. I did quite a bit of research, but found only vague opinions from some people who say yes it works others who say no it doesnt, some who say it only works on the old HD3000 series cards & a few links to the AMD website which are dead. I recently discovered a thing called Hybrid CrossfireX, apparently this is where you can crossfire the integrated GFX card in your motherboard with your Ati GFX card.
